POEM: Boundaries

Potent passion corralled
in a bullpen; penned by society,
defined by religiousness,
enforced by decorum.

Tantalizing, unspoken, illicit,
veiled; like the liaison between
a monk and a whore, or the sons
of God and the daughters of men,

freedom knocks, yet mocks
at the apex of the boundary
where insanity and sanity
become one – a Ferris wheel

promising to take the curious
somewhere but circles nowhere,
the ecstasy and agony
of knowing that I will never

be master of my own destiny.

ps. I took the photo of this Manchester Ferris Wheel a few weeks back :)

CathM...
most. most. incredible.

you craft the perfect rhythms...
requiring me to read aloud, and
each word is granted only after a little, sweet pain.

but so worth it!

you maaay never be the master of your destiny.
but i think i speak for everyone when i say:
you are A Master.

you could be satisfied with this alone!
(but i think you chase something larger. more.)

excellence... is already yours.

thank you for this!
very, very good writing!
Chuck

What a masterfully done piece, as others have already stated... a topic that I have wanted to deal with myself (very difficult to do well).

Extraordinary!!

Sublime sensuality tempered with the cynicism of questions, too long unanswered. We all come away with our own spin on what the poet paints with words. And dear Cath, you ARE a master. Very well done. I enjoyed it immensely.

A lovely poem you've created. Yes, it's difficult, maybe even impossible, to be master of your own destiny, but fortunately we try anyway:-)

Hi Cath! your poem is awesome in
her scope, the taking in of life's
dichotomy; the attraction of the
other [side of ourselves?} the
desire to be safe and free.

@Sarah: Thank you. Hope you had a fab Bank Holiday weekend!

@Chuck: Hmmmmm... indeed, to be ‘a master of the pen’ is something I strive to be (lol) but I think I’ve got a long way to go yet before ‘excellence’ is truly mine (smile). But thank you for your generous words of encouragement as it gives me the motivation to keep striving and penning!

@Annie: Ah – thank you... for reading and commenting so favourably.

@Paul: If only... it could be more :)

@Andrew: Such a perceptive and insightful comment ...‘sublime sensuality tempered with the cynicism of questions’ – me thinks, I am rather too consumed with the latter as opposed to the former. ps I wonder what your ‘spin’ on the poem is?

@Christopher: Hee hee hee, ‘trying to be masters of our destinies’ is in the human genome, I think... because we do persist with this futile goal (more often than not).

@Linda: ‘Thought provoking to the point of discomfort’ --- I’m glad - what a wonderful comment! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

@JM: Well, I’m still an amateur when it comes to photographs and photography (lol) but thank you for your comment.

@Rush: Welcome to my blog. Lovely to have you on board as a ‘blogging comrade’! Thanks for your comments. And, I hope to stay connected to your site too.

@Cynthia: OoooHhhh yes, you've got it :)

@Greener Bangalore: Saw your cool reply... it made me smile. Thanks!

@ken: AhHhhhh... thank you!

@Printemps: ‘Powerful poetry and powerful truth... hits the sub-conscious’ --- now, this is a comment and a half. Too generous and kind, thank you!

@Trevor: Welcome to my blog space. I’m looking forward to staying connected with yours!

Catherine, you relate the battle with color and meaning. It is tragic and incomprehensible that we have to go to such depths of spirit to create such beauty. Into the abyss of light and rainbow you will fall some day and on some days, as we all do. Heartache and joy hold hands.
